Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 large apples (peeled and chopped)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp sugar (for apples)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (for apples)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar (for cinnamon swirl)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (for cinnamon swirl)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment.
- Peel and chop apples. Toss with 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Set aside.
- Cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder. Gradually add to butter mix, alternating with milk.
- Pour half the batter into loaf pan. Layer with half the apple mixture and sprinkle with half of the brown sugar–cinnamon mix.
- Repeat with remaining batter, apples, and sugar–cinnamon. Swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes, then remove from pan.
- Mix powdered sugar with 2–3 tbsp milk for glaze. Drizzle over cooled bread and let set.
Notes
Use firm apples like Granny Smith for the best texture. Avoid overmixing for a tender crumb. Test doneness with a toothpick and cover with foil if top browns too quickly.
